Frequently Asked Questions
1) Concession Duty:  Who must work concession duty and who is exempt?
Teams that register in December will pick their concession dates.  Those that register in January or later will be ASSIGNED their work dates.  13U and 14U teams must work in April.

•  Teams will provide one worker for each player on the team with the following exemptions:
    a.  Two exemptions are provided for each team to use as they wish
    b.  Families that buyout are exempt from conession duties
    c.  Directors' families are exempt from concession duty
    d.  EXAMPLE: a team has 13 players.  One family has paid the buyout fee.
           10 workers must be provided (13 - 2 team exemptions - 1 buyout = 10).
    e.  EXAMPLE: a team has 14 players.  None of the families have paid the buyout fee.
           12 workers must be provided (14 - 2 team exemptions = 12)
    f.   EXAMPLE:  a team has 14 players.  One is a director's child & 8 families paid the buyout fee.
            3 workers must be provided (14 - 2 team exemptions - 1 director exemption - 8 buyouts = 3)

until fine of $150.00 per unfilled worker slot is paid.
• Scholarship program available for all eligible families - parent must work additional two
    shifts per child on scholarship.
• High School age team (15 - 18) have no concession duties.
• Tee Ball Teams must provide 5 workers for concession duty.  Mini 1 team parents and older
levels are required to work one concession duty per child unless they buyout.

2) Concession Duty:  How does the Concession Duty Buyout Program work?
All families are eligible for the MAA concession duty byout program.  The cost is $100.00 per family.  Once the fee is paid it covers ALL children in the family and exempts the parents from working any concession duty.  Parents can only opt to buyout at the time of registering their child(ren).  If the parents do not opt to buyout at this time, it is their responsibility to either work the shift or find an eligible person, who is 21 years old or older, to work their shift for them.

3) Concession Duty:  What should I do if I can't work my assigned concession duty shift?
Unless you are specifically exempt from working a concession duty all parents who did not pay the buyout fee must find their own replacement to work their shift.  This can be done several ways:
  a. Find another parent who has a duty at MAA and switch shifts with them.
  b. Find a friend, neighbor, or relative to work your duty.  Some parents even pay others to
work their assigned shift. (This is strictly between you and the person working.  The parent
is ultimately responsiblity for the shift being filled.)
  c.  Post a message on the MAA Message Board  noting that you are looking for someone to
        work your concession duty shift.
  d.  Post a message on the bulletin board at the ball park.

Please don't assume that a director will find someone to work for you.  You may ask for assistance, but directors volunteer many hours of their time to run the ball park and leagues.  First, please take some time and attempt to find your own replacement before asking for help.  Thank you.

4) Registration:  When is Registration for Spring/Summer Youth League?
Registration typically begins at the beginning of December each year and is complete by the end of January.  For some of the younger levels that have more pool players we try to leave some extra room on these teams to accomodate late registrations.  Keep in mind that we need to determine the exact number of teams at the beginning of February so we can begin scheduling the fields for play for MAA teams and for other county teams.  Therefore, be sure to register early.

5) Trophies: Who gets trophies?
    a. Starting in 2008 Teeball, Mini 1 & Mini 2 will receive participation trophies.
    b. All 8U and older teams get trophies only if they place 1st or 2nd in their division. It is
the respsonsibility of team managers to inform their MAA coordinator if they have placed
1st or 2nd in their division in the county league.

6) Rainout Phone Line:  Why isn't the message updated everyday or sooner on rainout days?
The rainout phone message is updated only after a decision has been made to cancel ball games, and we typically do not change the message to state that weather is good and games will be played unless we feel conidtions are questionable. Please pay attention to the time and date on the message so you don't miss your ball game due to listening to an outdated message

Keep in mind that a park director and/or field crew make(s) the rainout decisions.  These people are volunteers and parents just like you.  A director either will have to get up very early to get to the park to check out conditions or take time off work to verify field conditions and then update the rainout phone line.  We do realize that sometimes the decision is made after parents and coaches have left home for their morning game or to work concessino duty.  We're always looking for ways to improve communications for the convenience of everyone at the park.  Given that directors are volunteering hundreds of hours of their personal time each year to run the park for you please be patient if the message is posted later than you might have liked.  Thank you.
